UDA sets September 20 as nomination date for by-elections
According to the IEBC, political parties intending to take part in the by-elections must submit the names and specimen signatures of authorised party officials by September 17, 2025.
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) will conduct its party nominations on September 20, 2025, for candidates seeking to contest in the upcoming by-elections.
The nominations will cover vacant seats in the National Assembly, Senate, and various County Assembly wards across the country.

In a notice issued on Thursday, the party’s National Elections Board said aspirants must register through the UDA party portal by September 5, 2025, at 5:00 pm.
“Notice is hereby given that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party nominations shall be held on September 20, 2025. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply for nomination by registering through the UDA party portal accessible at www.uda.ke. The registration period will commence on August 14, 2025 and close on September 5, 2025, at 5:00 pm,” the statement reads.
The party has urged all aspirants to complete the process within the set timelines. Nomination fees will range from Sh25,000 to Sh250,000, depending on the seat and category of the applicant.
For the Member of County Assembly position, men will pay Sh50,000, while women, youth, and persons with disabilities will pay Sh25,000.
For the National Assembly and Senate seats, men will pay Sh250,000, and the other categories will pay Sh125,000.
The announcement follows last week’s declaration by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) that all by-elections will be held on November 27, 2025. IEBC said the gazettement of the polls is being done in two phases.
The first batch, gazetted on August 8, covers 16 County Assembly wards, including Angata Nanyokie in Samburu, Chemundu/Kapng’etuny in Nandi, Chewani in Tana River, Fafi in Garissa,
Kariobangi North in Nairobi, Kisa East in Kakamega, and Metkei in Elgeyo Marakwet.
Others are Mumbuni North in Machakos, Narok Town in Narok, Purko in Kajiado, Tembelio in Uasin Gishu, Nyansiongo, Nyamaiya and Ekerenyo in Nyamira, as well as Lake Zone and Nanaam in Turkana.
The second batch, to be gazetted on August 11, will include the by-election for the Baringo Senate seat, parliamentary seats for Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North, and Ugunja constituencies, and the Kabuchai/Chwele County Assembly ward seat in Bungoma.
According to the IEBC, political parties intending to take part in the by-elections must submit the names and specimen signatures of authorised party officials by September 17, 2025.
The same deadline applies for the submission of candidates’ names and symbols, as well as for independent candidates to submit their details.
